Just beyond the hill-stations of Himachal and Srinagar of Kashmir and just before the inhabitable thinning of air lies the sparsely populated region of Ladakh. A pocket of Tibetan culture carved into Indian borders and allowed to practice their ways free of governmental suppression, Ladakh is an oasis of Buddhist culture thriving amongst a harsh backdrop of the barren Himalayas.
Dogs in the north of India aren’t your normal straggly mutts you see in the cities. These wild roaming canines are gentle survivors.
Small villages as such survive off of plentiful glacier melt snow each summer. The summers are times of vigorous work preparing for the long harsh winters. These societies are largely self-sufficient.
The indus river begins as a small green stream here and then turns west and flows into Pakistan.
